In 2018 I was asked to submit a design for a work to commemorate and thank organ donors for St Thomas’s Hospital, London. ‘The Song of the Nightingale’ was designed so that the initials and dates of donors could be engraved on the leaves and stars and more added over time. In 2029 it was unveiled and dedicated by The Bishop of London in 2019, who herself was a ‘Nightingale’, as nurses trained at St Thomas’s are known. The finished work is in cut steel and felt. It was made in Unst, transported in pieces to Wales to be assembled and then taken to London and put up by the works-team.
